ENRICH

Enhancing Reading Through Identity and Cultural Heritage

DOMAIN: Children and young adolescents have positive relationships in supportive homes and communities
PATHWAY: Positive peer and adult relationships

This year, the Federation achieved the 108% of Output 1.1.2 target wherein a total of 13 teachers have received at least the minimum pedagogical training required by national standards to teach in Kindergarten and Early Grade levels.  The said teachers applied their knowledge and skills last 20 days of Summer Reading Camp in Pesa and Tignoan Elementary School where a total of 101 (or 110% of ENRICH Project this year) struggling readers have improved learning acquisition.

Based on the Catch them Early Tool 8 out of 120 children are identified as fair readers from being poor readers. This shows that 112 struggling readers improved in terms of reading and comprehension after the implementation of Summer Reading Camp.

During the pre-test, 46 out of 120 children are identified as poor readers and having difficulty in reading and tracing alphabet. However after the end of the activity, only 8 out 120 are identified fair readers from poor readers. This shows that 112 struggling readers improved in terms of reading and comprehension after the implementation of Summer Reading Camp. It only shows that from 85% children have improved.

Further, as part of ensuring the Sustainability of ENRICH Project in Reina Federation covered villages, peer-mentors are organized. And during SRM with teachers, 15 (75%) out of 20 target schools are reported with on-going session. Meanwhile, 5 peer-tutorial groups supported in their school remediation using “Ang Pinadaling Paraan ng Pag-basa ni Tysel”.

Lastly, 2 service providers or SGC take lead for the resource building for children’s education. In fact, the SGC of Pandan Elementary School and Tignoan Elementary School gained support from their barangays such providing fund to build their Basketball Court and a member of Federation Board is actively lobbying  the Local School Board for the resource building for children’s education.

“Before, it is hard for me to read nearing the point that I felt left behind in our class. But because of reading camp it is easy for me to read now. (Dati hirap po akong mag basa… Pakiramdam ko po ay diko kaya ang ginagawa namin sa school…dahil po sa camp ay dina po ako hirap masyado).  – Summer Reading Camp Pupil
